Eric Garner''s Family and New York City Settles For $5.9million

                          
The initial lawsuit filed against the city by the family of Eric Garner, who died after being put in a choke-hold by police last July, was $75million. 

New York City has reached a settlement to pay $5.9 million to resolve the claim over Eric's death. Eric's death erupted protesters around the country over how police treated African Americans. Cell phone video of the fatal encounter showed Garner saying 'I can't breath' 11 times while being held on the ground by an NYPD officer in a chokehold. He was being apprehended for allegedly illegally selling cigarettes when he died. 

The family say the settlement is not victory!
